Coffee, Donuts, and an Unforgettable Moab Elopement: C+S Elope in Dead Horse Point State Park

Sun sets over Dead Horse Point, the newlyweds stand hand-in-hand, overlooking the endless canyons of Canyonlands National Park—the perfect start to their journey together.

Let me tell you about a day to remember —a day filled with laughter, love, and pure adventure. It was Charlotte and Spencer’s Dead Horse Point elopement, and honestly, it was like watching magic unfold, minute by minute, from sunrise to sunset.

This wasn’t your typical “walk down the aisle” kind of wedding. For Charlotte and Spencer, it was about freedom—freedom to be themselves and celebrate what they love most: adventuring together. Their wedding wasn’t just another day; it was a reflection of the life they love—traveling, exploring their favorite places, and experiencing life to the fullest. It all started with bikes, coffee, and donuts, and only got better from there.

Sunrise, E-Bikes, and Donuts? Yes, Please!

We were up before the sun, because if you’re going to elope in Moab, you rise with the sun—no question about it. The light at that hour? It's unreal. As the sky slowly turned from deep purples to soft pinks, we kicked off the day with donuts and coffee (because priorities, right?), served in these adorable mugs that said, “And So The Adventure Begins.”

And then? We hit the trails. Charlotte and Spencer hopped on their e-mountain bikes—because how else would you start your adventure elopement day in Moab? Charlotte looked stunning in an all white kit, and Spencer rocked all black, perfectly in sync. They laughed and whooped as we rode through the cool morning air, chasing the light as it hit the canyon walls below. There was something so fun, so real about the way they moved together, both in love with the wildness of the land and each other. We peddled around for a while, stopping to capture moments against Moab’s epic landscapes—those views that just take your breath away. But honestly, it was the joy on their faces that stole the show.

Slowing Down to Savor the Moment

After the ride, we headed back to their trailer for a little downtime. And let me tell you, this trailer isn’t just any trailer—it’s their home. The space where they’ve shared countless adventures, parked under a million stars. We chilled out, snacked, and just enjoyed the calm before the rest of the day unfolded. Charlotte got her hair and makeup done by the incredible Lindsay Vaccaro, a local Moab hair and makeup artist, while Spencer took a nap (because honestly, how cute is that?).

Then came the First Look. Oh man, this part always gets me. It’s not just about the “big reveal” moment—it’s about the pause. That quiet second when the world holds its breath, and it’s just the two of them. But this time, it was a little different. First, Charlotte poked her head out of their trailer, a playful grin on her face, and Spencer, from the van, did the same. A laugh, a shared glance, then Spencer joined her, stepping out to meet her in the desert breeze. They smiled, hugged, and had this sweet moment that was just theirs.

Vows on the Edge of the World

As the day rolled on, we made our way to the cliff edge at Dead Horse Point State Park—one of those places that makes you feel like you’re standing at the edge of the world. The vastness of it all is overwhelming, but in the best way. Charlotte and Spencer walked hand-in-hand to the rim, where they exchanged their vows with nothing but the wind and the canyons as witnesses.

There’s something so raw and beautiful about speaking your heart out loud, especially in a place like this. No fluff, no extras—just honest words and deep love. They poured their hearts into those vows, and I could feel the weight of every word they shared.

Ending their Dead Horse Point elopement with a Sunset Picnic

The day ended the way every adventure should—with a picnic at sunset. They popped a bottle of champagne and shared cupcakes shaped like succulents (because, yes, Charlotte and Spencer are that cool). As the sun slowly dipped behind the horizon, they toasted to their future, surrounded by the same wild beauty that had brought them here.

And me? I just felt lucky to be there. To witness it all. To see two people so clearly living their best lives, sharing that with the person they love the most.

A Few Thoughts on Planning Adventure Elopements…

Adventure elopements like Charlotte and Spencer’s aren’t just about the grand views or epic photos (although, trust me, those are so good). They’re about the connection—the moments in between. The laughter, the shared glances, the quiet pauses. And if you’re planning your own elopement, here’s a tip: plan moments like that. Those little spaces of calm where you can just be together.

And if you’re wondering about the logistics, don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Here’s how we made Charlotte and Spencer’s day flow like magic:

  • We started with a detailed questionnaire to capture what mattered most to them.

  • I did a location scout (even though I know Dead Horse Point like the back of my hand) to make sure we hit all the right spots.

  • We found the perfect trails for their e-bike adventure and made sure their trusty trailer was part of the day from start to finish.

Why Moab? Why Moab Photographer?

Charlotte and Spencer chose Moab because it’s more than just a pretty place. It’s where they come every winter, a place that feels like freedom—big views, endless trails, and a sense of solitude that lets them just be. And they chose me because, well, I live and breathe this place. I love it as much as they do, and they knew I’d get their vision—because we share the same love for adventure (and bikes!).
