Terry & Sheri’s Epic Jeep Wedding at Top of the World

When picturing their wedding, Terry and Sheri dreamed of an adventure. One that took them off the beaten path (literally) to exchange vows at Top of the World, one of Moab’s most epic jeep trails.

These two have been coming to Moab every year, bringing their jeep to conquer red rock trails and soak in the desert magic. So when they decided to get married, it only made sense to tie the knot in the place they love most. And on their four-year first-date anniversary, no less!

Add in the fact that Terry had just retired and Sheri was about to retire just before their trip, and you have a recipe for a truly unforgettable occasion. Their elopement wasn’t just about marriage; it was about embracing a whole new chapter of life together.

And, of course, I was so in!

The Plan: A Jeep, A View, and One Unforgettable Sunset

Terry and Sheri called me up and told me their vision: an intimate wedding at Top of the World, a spot that overlooks Professor Valley, Fisher Towers, and the Colorado River corridor. This route isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a two-and-a-half-hour off-road adventure to get there - full of bumpy terrain, heart-racing climbs, and jaw-dropping views. This was not going to be a quick drive-up-and-say-your-vows kind of wedding. This was a journey, and I was all about it.

Since we needed to be off the technical jeep road before dark, we crafted a plan to hit Onion Creek at sunset for those dreamy golden-hour photos before ending the night with a celebratory dinner.

Here’s how it all went down.

The Wedding Day: From Rock Crawling to “I Do”

Terry and Sheri arrived in Moab a few days early to settle in, do a little pre-wedding jeep scouting, and grab all the essentials:

Flowers from Tangled Sage: check

Cupcakes from Baked by Rachel (RIP to her Moab desserts biz! 😭): check

Lunch from Sweet Cravings: check

By midday, we all met up at Dewey Bridge Campground, an iconic Moab spot, where Terry and Sheri loaded up the jeep with their officiant, Beth, and me.

Then we hit the trail.

2.5 hours of rock crawling, desert dust, and big grins later… we made it to the top. And let me tell you - it was worth every bump, jolt, and dusty boot.

Up there, with nothing but wide-open sky and red rock cliffs dropping into forever, we soaked in the moment. There were a few other adventurers at the top, and we all exchanged stories about the climb. Then, as the sun dipped lower, we had the place to ourselves.

Beth gathered Terry and Sheri, and with a simple and heartfelt ceremony, they said “I do.” They exchanged rings, signed the paperwork, and just like that they were married AND retired. What a power move! Wahooooo!

Champagne toasts, cupcake bites, and Top of the World photos followed before we hopped back in the jeep to make our descent.

Sunset & Sweet Celebrations

By the time we made it back down to the valley floor, the light was turning golden, so we stopped at Onion Creek for their final couples' session. Lucky for us, Moab at sunset is pure magic. The red cliffs glowed, the sky turned cotton candy pink, and these two just soaked it all in. Laughing, embracing, and reveling in their first moments as husband and wife.

To seal the deal, we wrapped up the night with dinner at Sunset Grill. Because after a wedding day this epic, you have to celebrate with good food.
